Brownies by post are in for another tough time…

More strikes ahead…

I actually can’t believe I’m writing this, but Royal Mail are going to be striking for another 19 days throughout October and November. The strike will take place across key shopping moments such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Whilst we completely support the right to strike, our fear is that the poor posties will suffer the most. Not only will they not get paid (right before Christmas), but they’ll also have the most enormous backlog to wade through after one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

For us bakers that send brownies in the post, we’ve already lost an awful lot of delivery days this year.  There have been additional bank holidays and already 3 strikes. Plus we’ve had missed collections due to extreme cold and hot temperatures. We’ve also seen energy coasts soar, packaging has risen in price and so have the raw ingredients. For a lot of bakeries right now, every day is a real battle and this just isn’t helping things.

Of course, there is an option to send with another courier to get through the strike periods. We have previously experienced Royal Mail strikes whilst with a courier and things aren’t any better there either. Lots of companies are also doing the same thing and the courier companies become completely overwhelmed.

For us, we have a wholesale side to our business, so we don’t solely rely on the trade that’s incoming from our online sales.  But sadly, for lots of other companies that send brownies in the post, this could be really damaging.

What we plan to do with our brownies in the post this time around…

We’ve become “somewhat” expert at this by now. We shut our orders two days before the strike and we will contact you if you’ve ordered during the strike period to arrange another date.

It would be incredible if the unions could come to an agreement with Royal Mail about the matter in hand, but I have a feeling it won’t be solved over night. If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to email us (we love to chat).
